Collection Restrictions
- This test is intended only for patients who have history of foreign residence or travel
- Physicians may request on other patients following consultation with the Microbiology Lab
Collection Requirements
Source: stool
Container: O&P kit
- Stool must be placed in vials within 30 minutes of collection
- Collection instructions (Espanol)
Special Instructions
- Do not submit samples contaminated with water or urine
- Samples containing barium, bismuth or magnesium are unacceptable; allow 7 to 10 days for these substances to clear before collecting feces
Turn Around Time
Giardia/Cryptosporidium antigen test: 3 hours
Microscopic exam: 3 days
