The following are not acceptable:
- superficial material collected on a swab
- sputum, tracheal aspirate, throat, or NP swab
- bronch washing
- vaginal or cervical specimens
- clean catch urine

Preferred: sterile syringe or cup
Acceptable: eSwabs are accepted but are not
an optimal specimen
Source: tissue or respiratory tract:
trans-tracheal aspirate, pleural, or empyema fluid only
Container: sterile cup
Special Instructions
Submit immediately; Microbiology must process within 30 minutes of collection
