PCR/RFLP analysis for detection of Factor V Leiden variant (c.1601G>A, aka G1691A) and Factor II (Prothrombin) variant (c.*97G>A, aka G20210A)

Additional Information

Factor V Leiden is the most common inherited form of thrombophilia. It is characterized by a poor anticoagulant response to activated protein C (APC) and an increased risk of venous thromboembolism. The Factor V Leiden variant (c.1601G>A aka G1691A) in the F5 gene gives rise to a protein that is inactivated at a rate approximately ten times slower than normal factor V and persists longer in the circulation, resulting in increased thrombin generation and a mild hypercoagulable state. A variant (c.*97G>A aka G20210A) in the Factor II (prothrombin) gene (F2) also poses an increased risk for thrombosis.
