Collection Requirements

Source: blood

Preferred:
Container: Heparinized syringe
Volume: 0.3 mL in heparinized syringe

Acceptable:
Container: sodium heparin green
Volume: 2 mL in vacutainer

Offsite collection: Specimens requiring transport to Adele Hall MUST be a vacutainer

No additional sample necessary if ordered with a blood gas
Place on ice if not sent immediately

Specimen: whole blood
Vacutainer: Do NOT remove the cap; tube must remain sealed

Offsite locations: Specimens transported to Adele Hall must be refrigerated and arrive at the Critical Care Lab within 8 hours of collection
