Includes
- UA: Specific gravity, pH, bilirubin, blood, glucose, leukocytes, nitrite, protein, urobilinogen, and ketones
- Microscopic: RBC, WBC, bacteria, crystals, casts, mucous, and epithelial cells
- Culture if indicated
Algorithm
UA with reflexive microscopic examination if any one of the following:
- Leukocyte Esterase ≥Trace
- Nitrite Positive
- Protein ≥1+
- Blood ≥1+
Reflex to a urine Culture:
- patients ≤60 days age are always set up for culture
- patients >60 days age: if any one of the following:
- Leukocyte Esterase ≥Trace
- Nitrite Positive
- WBC ≥5
